Information About

Great Americans Series

The Great Americans Series is a set of Definitive stamps issued by the United States Postal Service starting in 1980 with the 19¢ Sequoyah stamp, and continued through 2002 with the 78¢ Alice Paul self-adhesive stamp.

This series differed greatly from the previous definitive series issued by the USPS. Where many previous series focused mainly on political figures, the subjects of the Great Americans series were well-known from a number of diverse fields and ethnicities. Only two presidents were subjects of the series: Thomas Jefferson and Harry Truman .
