GEOGRAPHY Glenwood Springs is located at 39°32'22" North, 107°19'46" West (39.539575, -107.329449). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 12.5 Km&2 (4.8 Mi&2 ). 12.4 km&2 (4.8 mi&2) of it is land and 0.21% is water. Glenwood Springs is home to Fairy Cave / Glenwood Caverns and Bridal Veil Falls . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 7,736 people, 3,216 households, and 1,926 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 622.3/km&2 (1,611.6/mi&2). There were 3,353 housing units at an average density of 269.7/km&2 (698.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 90.42% White , 0.23% African American , 0.71% Native American , 0.80% Asian , 0.08% Pacific Islander , 5.82% from Other Races , and 1.94% from two or more races. 13.30% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 3,216 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% were Married Couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97. In the city the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 103.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.7 males. The median income for a household in the city was $43,934, and the median income for a family was $52,903. Males had a median income of $38,506 versus $29,272 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $23,449. 7.9% of the population and 3.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 6.0% of those under the age of 18 and 5.5% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
