Production I.G announced the new episode at the
Tokyo Anime Fair 2006. It is scheduled to be released in summer of the same year. The episode would be 100 minutes long. It is not clear whether the episode will be a feature film, a television episode or a direct-to-video product. The production team is the same as the previous TV series.
The Plot is set in 2034, two years after 2nd GIG, when
Public Security Section 9 recruits 20 new members. The new event starts with 13 terrorists sharing a

(). They take hostages in an airport, and commit serial suicides. Section 9 steps in the counter terrorism action and investigation, and corners one terrorist, only to hear terrorist's last word before commiting suicide: the existence of "super wizard" class hacker ''Kugutsu Mawashi'' (
, roughly translated as "Puppet Master", but different from ''Ningyo Tsukai'' of the first movie).
