George Edward Martin Van Haltren ( March 30 1866 - September 29 , 1945 ) was an American Center Fielder in Major League Baseball who also Pitched and played Shortstop infrequently. He batted and threw left-handed. Van Haltren played with the Chicago Cubs for the first 3 years of his career, and played the last 10 with the New York Giants . He played with a number of teams in between. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri . His career statistics include a .316 Batting Average with 69 Home Run s and 1014 RBI s. He also ended his career with 2532 Hits and 583 Stolen Base s. He was tied for the lead in Triple s in 1896 , with Tom McCreery . They had 21. He died in Oakland, California at the age of 79.
