Gary Beach is an American Actor , primarily in Broadway Musical Theatre . He was born on October 10 , 1947 in Alexandria, Virginia , and is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts. His television credits include the 2003 Kennedy Center Honors , "Recording the Producers" (a documentary for PBS), '' Queer As Folk '', '' Murder, She Wrote '', '' Cheers '', '' Sisters '', '' Arli$$ '', and '' Saved By The Bell ''. He performed in the chorus of '' Les Misérables : The Complete Symphonic Recording''. Beach has had notable performances on Broadway over the past few decades, including Lumiere in '' Beauty And The Beast '', and as Roger De Bris in '' The Producers '', for which he won a Tony Award in 2001. He returned to Broadway in '' La Cage Aux Folles '' (playing the role played by Nathan Lane in the film '' The Birdcage '', with whom he worked in '' The Producers ''.) Recently, he reprised his role as Roger De Bris on stage in '' The Producers '' whilst the film version was simultaneously released. He thus became the first person in Broadway history to play the same role on both Broadway and film at the same time. He lives with his partner Jeff Barnett (a real estate agent and actor) in Los Angeles.
