As a result the word "French" in English (primarily as used by native speakers in the UK and surprisingly often in the US as well) is often used to derogatively to describe anything which is to be thought of as bogus, over-stated or rated, as well those things that are illegal, immoral or just generally undesirable. Thus we see:

  • French - a racial stereotype of one who is either sexy or dirty
