GEOGRAPHY Freeman is located at 43°21'8" North, 97°26'3" West (43.352133, -97.434110). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 2.8 Km&2 (1.1 Mi&2 ). 2.8 km&2 (1.1 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Freeman has been assigned the ZIP Code 57029 and the FIPS Place Code 23020. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,317 people, 602 households, and 364 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 475.2/km&2 (1,229.3/mi&2). There were 648 housing units at an average density of 233.8/km&2 (604.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 99.39% White , 0.08% African American , 0.38% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.00% from Other Races , and 0.15% from two or more races. 0.15% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
