Sir Frederick Napier Broome ( 1842 – 1896 ) was Governor of Western Australia from 1883 to 1889 . He was born in Canada , but was living in England in 1865, when he married Mary Anne Barker . The couple then moved to New Zealand . Before being appointed to Governor Of Western Australia , he had served as colonial secretary in Natal and Mauritius , including Lieutenant-Governor Of Mauritius . After serving as Governor of Western Australia, he served as acting Governor Of Barbados in the West Indies and then Governor Of Trinidad . He died in London in 1896 .
