Franklin is a Town located in Delaware County, New York . As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,621. The Town of Franklin contains a village also called Franklin . The town is on the county's north border. HISTORY The town was formed in 1792 from the Town Of Harpersfield . GEOGRAPHY The north town line is the border of Otsego County, New York . According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 211.2 Km&2 (81.6 Mi&2 ). 211.0 km&2 (81.4 mi&2) of it is land and 0.3 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.13% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 2,621 people, 1,026 households, and 725 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 12.4/km&2 (32.2/mi&2). There were 1,371 housing units at an average density of 6.5/km&2 (16.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.51% White , 0.69% Black or African American , 0.04% Native American , 0.15% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.31% from Other Races , and 0.31% from two or more races. 0.72% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,026 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% were Married Couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.01. In the town the population was spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males. The median income for a household in the town was $35,417, and the median income for a family was $44,519. Males had a median income of $26,367 versus $22,625 for females. The Per Capita Income for the town was $17,477. 10.4% of the population and 7.7% of families were below the Poverty Line . 13.3% of those under the age of 18 and 5.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
