Four-field Crop Rotation

The Four-field Crop Rotation is a method of farming developed initially in Germany , which was later key to the British Agricultural Revolution. In this system, four crops (usually turnips, barley, clover, and wheat) are grown alternately on the same plot of ground, with only occasional fallowing. The turnips help to control weeds and provide food for cattle, as does the clover, which also fixes nitrogen in the soil, improving soil quality and (again) reducing the need for fallowing.
