Force Shaping

Force shaping is the US Air Force term for " Downsizing ."

The United States Air Force, in order to meet congressionally mandated "end strength" numbers, implemented a program to involuntarily separate Company Grade Officers (CGOs) with less than 6 years of active duty service. The 2002 and 2003 year groups (CGOs who were commissioned in the years of 2002 and 2003) are vulnerable. Individuals in these groups will meet a Selection Board to determine who can stay and who will be fired.

After spending as much as 8 years training (between JROTC and ROTC ) to become an officer, individuals who planned on spending 20-30 years of their life serving their country are being told they may have to start job hunting.

There will be no Severance Pay for anyone with under 6 years time in service. However, servicemen with 15 years on active duty are exempt. The average CGO has an average of 4 years or less active duty experience.

Force Shaping is projected to be an annual occurrence.
