Information AboutFoot Rating (dance Dance Revolution) |
|
CATASTROPHIC Catastrophic is the term given to any song routine in the Dance Dance Revolution video game series that has a foot-rating of nine. The rating was first seen in '' Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX With BeatmaniaIIDX Substream CLUB VERSiON 2 ''. The word was last used officially in '' Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX PLUS '', after which all names for the various foot ratings were abolished, but henceforth players would refer to all songs rated nine feet or higher as '''catas'''. The Catastrophic difficulty rating was added because DDR 2nd Mix Club Version 2 had certain songs that were far more difficult than could justify the previous highest rating of eight feet, termed Exorbitant. The songs in question on that mix were ''GRADIUSIC CYBER'', ''LUV TO ME (disco mix)'' and ''ska a go go''. The '''Maniac''' (later '''Heavy''') steps for all three were given the new higher rating. Two songs that were rated eight feet before the advent of Catastrophic--''DROP OUT'' from Dance Dance Revolution Solo 2000 and ''PARANOiA (KCET CLEAN MIX)'' from Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX --were eventually re-rated nine feet, although many believe the latter song should have remained at eight feet. 10-FOOTERS Beginning with , songs more difficult than the conventional 9-footers have been given a designation of 10 feet. 10-footers are the hardest songs in the game, requiring intense stamina and reading abilities (all except a handful are at least 270 BPM for the majority of play), as well as advanced techniques and the ability to navigate complex rhythms (most notably for bag, whose 65 BPM tempo make the song very difficult to read without scroll speed modifiers). Because naming of the foot ratings ceased after DDR 3rd Mix, ten-footers are often referred to as Catas. There is no special name for a 10-foot song. However, it is believed that 10-foot songs would be given the title of "Apocalyptic." In DDR Ultramix 3, the mission mode has 10 levels, the first nine of which are named after the foot ratings for 1-9 feet songs. The 10th level is named "Apocalyptic", so the name could be applied to 10-foot songs. At present, the list of arcade 10 footers (all Maniac/Heavy difficulty unless noted) is:
In addition, there are several 10-footers released only for home versions:
Since DDR SuperNOVA is under development at the present date (scheduled for release in late-Spring 2006), this list may change. The following 3 songs are listed as 10 feet in Dance Dance Revolution Disney's Rave , but because of the more liberal rating scale used in that game due to a younger target audience, most players consider them much less difficult than conventional 10-footers:
The following songs were listed as 10 footers in beta testings only:
In addition to being 10-footers, 3 songs, The legend of MAX, Paranoia Survivor Max, and Max.(period), are listed as "flashing" 10-footers. The flashing refers to a level of difficulty that often exceeds those of ''other'' 10-footers, and many players believe that the Challenge steps to Paranoia Survivor Max are more deserving of an 11-foot rating.
