''The Flying Castle of Dreams'' ('''FCoD''') is a message board started by parodies, created by the members. The name was proposed by a member known as Lunchebox and has remained since then. __TOC__ THE HISTORY Humble Beginnings The origins of the Flying Castle initially began back in the summer of 2005, on the popular video game walkthrough and cheat archive site , made his way to a section of the GameFAQs message board dedicated solely to that game. For the longest time, Teisel remained unknown to most people. He wasn't active much on the board, and rarely participated in active debates. He would occasionally show up to crack a joke or too in a conversation, and that's what began to earn him respect among the denizens of the message board. After a few weeks, Teisel began to be more active, mostly making joke topics, among one of the most popular being a comparison between the stealth technology of Metal Gear REX and a Wonderbra . Another big hit was his controversial theory on the death of Col. Volgin, linking it to symbolism of the Cobra Unit emotions (All from various Metal Gear installments). Little by little, his popularity began to grow. The Big Bang In the middle of that summer, another young member by the name of Charizard joined the board. Having finished a Resident Evil 4 parody on its respective board, Charizard wanted to make his very own Metal Gear Solid 3 parody, and proceeded to do just that. He posted his first chapter a day afterward. Unfortunately, the vast majority of readers hated his story. Many claimed that the jokes were low-brow and the writing was terrible, while others thought it just flat-out sucked. Amongst the many critics was Teisel, who knew that a story like this had potential; It just needed a better writer. The following evening, Teisel wrote and posted the first chapter on his own parody, entitled Not Another Metal Gear Solid Parody. It was astounding just how big of a success it became. Fans everyone clamored over Teisel's literary innovations and praised him all over the message board. He was loved and admired and proclaimed as a genius of writing. Hundreds of users logged in everyday to check the latest update to his story. The very first chapters easily reached 500 posts and had to expand to another topic for more room. Teisel came to be so admired that the fans dubbed him "Lord Teisel", a title that has stuck to this very day. At the time, Teisel bathed in his admiration and praised, and all seemed good. The First Strike Then, the unthinkable happened. After the second topic for Not Another Metal Gear Solid Parody was opened, and the newest chapter posted, a local member by the name of liquid_s marked the topic for moderator review, and in the process got the entire topic deleted. Fans were outraged, and Teisel was furious. He received a message from the moderator, stating that his parody could only be continued on the message board's social section. At the time, the social board was a complete wasteland. It was empty save for a few obnoxious joke topics involving phone sex. But, reluctant as he was, Teisel moved in, and Not Another Metal Gear Solid Parody continued on. It was here that he was joined by some of his biggest fans, who would later evolve into his greatest of friends. The most recognizeable and most enduring were Reno and Alamar, and were the first two to join Teisel in the social board. Thanks to their efforts, the duo managed to bring nearly every single on of Teisel's original fans over to the social board, and in no time, the board began to strive like it did originally. Spin-Offs Pretty soon, Teisel's parody inspired a new generation of writers. Alamar was the very first one to write a spin-off parody to Not Another Metal Gear Solid Parody, soon followed by Reno, and then many, many others. At the time, the board nearly became flooded with spin-off parodies, some good, but most of them mediocre. This began to lead to criticism against Teisel for inspiring a massive flood. Looking to remedy the situation, Teisel came up with an idea. Along with the best of the writers on the board, he created a collaborative effort between himself, Alamar, Reno, thaddeus6th, and LeftAnalogStick, and created Metal Gear Exile: The Twit Arrow. Based around the plot of Metal Gear Solid, the story centered around Exile Arrow, a legendary member of GameFAQs who was hailed by many as the biggest idiot in the world. Besides being a great story, this also won back Teisel's respect for the time being, and gave a new form of entertainment for the social board. Teisel's Absence A few weeks into the social board era, word began to spread that a massive Hurricane was heading towards Louisiana , where Teisel lives. Teisel scoffed at it, citing that hurricanes weren't a big deal, and claimed that he would be back in two or three days after "kicking this hurricane's ass." This hurricane would forever be known as Hurricane Katrina . Teisel was missing for a good two or three weeks. During that time, the social board had no idea of where he was, and a lot of them were worried that he was killed in the massive floods that spread across the cities. Luckily, though, Teisel just barely missed the hurricane. He managed to salvage most of the stuff in his home, but had to live without electricity or light for three weeks, which was a blessing compared to what others had to deal with. Soon, he was back in charge of the social board, even claiming that the Hurricane would've done more damage if he hadn't "kicked its ass." The Final Straw After the very first trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4 was released by Konami , a message board dedicated to the upcoming PlayStation 3 title was created on GameFAQs. Teisel thought that perhaps he would be able to reach out to a larger audience over there, and announced his move to the Metal Gear Solid 4 boards. Some were angry at Teisel for wanting to leave, while others happily left. Teisel, alongside his faithful companions Alamar and Reno, packed their bags and stories and left for the board. When the trio left the board, the social board reverted almost immediately back to the way things were. It became a wasteland once again, and most everyone there began to blame Teisel for it, or just plain forget about him. This was the first actual time Teisel had to deal with criticism, and one that still haunts him. But on the newfound Metal Gear Solid 4 boards, all seemed to be well again. Not Another Metal Gear Solid Parody was set back up, once again praised by fans, some old, but mostly new. However, it wasn't long before once again, the topic was marked and the parody was deleted. Claiming that stories were more suited for social boards, the moderators waved a stern finger in Teisel's face once more. However, at the time, the Metal Gear Solid 4 board WAS a social board, since the game hadn't even been released yet, and couldn't really be discussed in full. Teisel pointed this out, but the moderators ignored his plight. Teisel was furious. He publicly called out and insulted the GameFAQs moderators, and urged for full-scale rebellion for his fans. Reno, however, had a better idea. The First Castle Reno created a message board just for Teisel and the fans to move to, and move they did. However, the site looked horrible, so Teisel suggested creating his own. Reno accepted the proposal, and Lord Teisel's Flying Castle of Dreams was created. Inspired by a comic strip drawn by one of Teisel's oldest friends, Max Lunche, The Flying Castle of Dreams soared to success in no time at all. Many new projects were introduced, including a hand-drawn comic strip based around Teisel and his girlfriend Yuy, simply titled "Teisel and Yuy", and many new stories were made available, a majority created by the members of the board. Alamar and Reno eventually became moderators of the board, alongside Lunche and Chron, two of Teisel's friends from the now gone Skull Castle, and eventually, a new member by the name of Yam appeared. Skilled in site-building, Yam suggested and created so many additions to the Flying Castle that Teisel just decided to make him an administrator. Yam happily accepted. The First Migration The Castle saw resounding success over a short couple of days. In just a week's time, he had reached over 75 members, and over 2,000 posts. Teisel prided himself in having such a quickly evolving message board. Yam saw this too, and struck a deal with Teisel, asking to merge his board, the Infinity Faction, with Teisel's Flying Castle. Teisel accepted, always eager to find more people to entertain, and the two made a brand new board to celebrate the merge. The title still kept the Flying Castle moniker, but the server host was changed, unbenknownst to Teisel at the time. The new link to the board was posted, and everyone happily moved in. They even acquired a new mod, Cure, who would forever be known as the enigmatic music expert of the board. The new Flying Castle, for the most part, was successful. Mostly everyone managed to make the jump, although few had to stay behind on the rotting carcass that was the original castle. The new castle saw many happy times, with a few new projects started. However, the happiness came to a quick halt, when perhaps the greatest fight in Castle history broke out amongst two administrators: Teisel and Lunche. Teisel was in a troubled state of affairs during the time, and the stress caused him to lash out at Lunche for seemingly little reason. Lunche left the board, but Teisel continued on with his rage, posting a rather biased story on what caused this argument; the death of a friend's mother, and Lunche's somewhat emotionless response. Of course, Lunche wasn't at all happy with this, and retaliated through his LiveJournal. What began as a petty argument became a fullscale war. In the end, the two of them broke into one final fight over an instant messenger conversation, which ended in the two of them parting ways. One funny thing that came out of this fight was a comment Lunche made regarding his departure of the board and the loss of his job as a moderator. "Hell, give Saberfire the job," he stated. Teisel did just that, making Saberfire a moderator...of the original Castle, which was long dead and forgotten. Other than that, this is quite possibly Teisel's biggest mistake and failure, but one that would be resolved in about two months or so. The Second Migration After staying not more than a few weeks at the board, Teisel and Yam began to realize that the options given to them as administrators were underwhelming and lacking. Many of the promises they made on the server switch would be impossible for this message board. A vote was cast amongst the mods, and they all decided that another move would be in order. It was here that another message board owner, Sergio, alongside his companion Daylight, offered Yam their old board, which was empty and forgotten, but already set up. Yam accepted, once again without Teisel's knowledge, and the move began once again. Once more, the Castle was highly successful, though more members were lost in the move. Eventually, they found their way back, but the spark was lost in all the transitions. That spark, however, came back as a raging inferno as the second fight began, scaling even higher than Teisel and Lunche's argument. SECRET STUFF The Lunche & Teisel Conflict: An Extended Look Though the Battle has been briefly mentioned, it must be known that the epic fight truly shook the Castle, nearly destroying its population. What started out as an argument over whether or not Lunchebox had the capablity to express Emotion erupted into full-scale conflict. Lunchebox decided to leave the board, and was resolved to do it peacfully, but after an out-of-context AIM conversation was posted by Teisel, Lunchebox came back and retaliated. After he thought the argument was finished, he stripped away his own powers at the board and left. More insults and lies were posted at the board, behind his back, that he narrowly caught wind of it, and so he posted his retaliations in his Live Journal . Years later Lunche and Teisel would meet in real life and battle it out, causing continents to fall, countries to despair, and governments to fail. A millennium passed when finally, Lunchebox kicked Teisel's ass so hard, the evil stick bug that had been shoved up his ass fell out. Only then was it revealed that Teisel's emotions were being controlled by the abomination, and that he and Lunchebox shouldn't be fighting. The bug then promptly died. Lunchebox, remorseful of his actions and seeing how he was blinded by rage and hate, used a time machine to travel back in time, some time in the two months between his leave of the Castle and his return, where he talked to his past self, whom was training in the mountains of China, and revealed the secret of Teisel's actions. With the newly acquired knowledge, and the power of the doomsday ass-kicker, Lunchebox traveled back to the Castle, only to find an impersonator continuing the damage he started. Knowing no one would trust him, he donned the mask and was known as 'The Midnight Thunder Boy' and defeated the doppelganger. But questions still remain. Who shoved the stick-bug up Teisel's ass? Who unleashed the doppelganger on to the castle? We may never know... THE WRITINGS Parodies First and foremost, the Castle has mostly parodies and random stories. The main core of it's parody-driven literature is the Metal Gear Solid series, in which the authors usually replace actual characters with members of the Castle. The amount of Metal Gear Solid parodies is so numerous, that Teisel has even added a section in the "Creationism" part of the boards specifically for those parodies. Personal Writings The admin Yam has also written a myriad of short stories of all genres, including fantasy, something which he is ashamed to admit. A publishing company that actually responded to his mass of sendings did just that. However, nothing further was heard from them. The member Tarsir has a message board dedicated to his book series, set in the Land of the Rose, an area of seven powerful nations centered around the White Rose, an artifact left behind by the seven nations' greatest king. He also has written a few short stories. The Other Stories Every once in a while, a member will start up a story with varying seriousness. Virtually all of them have little to none of that, except for two of the Create-Your-Own-Adventure stories. The stories often, as the parodies, use Castle members for the cast. The majority of them pertain Teisel and Yam as the two heads of opposing factions, or otherwise on the same group. The member Ryo enjoys making "group stories" in which he has a co-author, although he forgets them altogether in almost every case. Alamar is also a notable writer of the satirical stories.
