Floyd Kirk Haskell was a United States Senator from Colorado , and a member of the Democratic Party; born in Morristown, New Jersey , February 7 , 1916 ; graduated, Harvard University 1937 ; graduated, Harvard Law School 1941 ; admitted to the New York and Colorado bars in 1946 and commenced practice in Denver, Colorado .; served in the United States Army 1941 - 1945 , attaining the rank of major; member, Colorado House Of Representatives 1965 - 1969 ; elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 1972 and served from January 3 , 1973 , to January 3 , 1979 ; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1978 . Like a lot of former members of Congress that tasted the waters of the Potomac, Haskell did not return to Colorado, but was a resident of Washington, D.C. until his death on August 25 , 1998 . Haskell was married to National Public Radio legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg since 1979 . |
