Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge




The Refuge is an important resting area for Waterfowl migrating through Kansas . Thousands of Mallard s, Blue-winged Teal , Canada Geese , and Snow Geese can be seen on the Refuge during their spring and fall migrations. The Refuge also provides valuable habitat for Shorebird s, Bald Eagle s, Wild Turkey , Bobwhite Quail , Bobcat s, White-tailed Deer , and many species of Warblers . The Refuge has been designated as an "Internationally Important Bird Area" and serves as a wintering area for bald eagles and dozens of Red-tailed Hawk s, Northern Harrier s, and Rough-legged Hawk s.

DIRECTIONS

Flint Hills NWR is located adjacent to the town of Hartford, Kansas . From Interstate 35, take exit 141 and turn south on Kansas Highway 130. Follow K-130 south for 8 miles (13 km) until reaching Hartford. Turn west on Maple Ave and drive three blocks to the main entrance road. Turn north and drive c mile (1.6 km) to the Refuge headquarters and visitor center. Directional signs are located along the route.
