Information About

Flint Fireforge

Flint is one of the Heroes Of The Lance and one of the principal characters who does not survive the War Of The Lance . Flint is gruff, surly, ill tempered, and ornery. Yet he has a kind heart and would lay down his life in defence of his friends. Flint is deathly afraid of water and boating and has a deep hatred of Gully Dwarves , who kept him captive for a time. Flint is physically (not chronologically) the oldest of the heroes. He often refers to the humans as his children. He is the trusted friend and confidant of Tanis Half-Elven . Like Tanis, Flint is essentially little changed from his appearance when the human characters were children. Flint is often paired with Tasslehoff Burrfoot , the Kender and nearest in size to Flint, who is his polar opposite. Unlike the gruff old dwarf, Tasslehoff is a lively free spirit prone to trouble, often much to the chagrin of Flint, who is either the butt of his jokes or has to get him out of trouble. To hear Flint tell it, he hates Tasslehoff, yet the truth is that they are best friends.

Flint is an accomplished warrior and, like many dwarves, specializes in axe combat. As a dwarf, he is shorter than a human or elf, about 4 feet tall. Flint's people are miners and metalworkers, often living in subterranean homes. As such, Flint is extremely strong and durable. He sees well in darkness and lives much longer than humans, though not as long as elves. Flint is knowledgeable about metal and stoneworking. In his home town of Solace, houses are built in huge trees, yet Flint insists on a stone house on the ground.

Flint himself is killed near the lake of Godshome when his heart gives out. He bequeaths to Tasslehoff a special helm found in the ruined city of Xak Tsaroth, which is adorned by a braid of hair from a griffon's mane.

In his afterlife, Flint supposedly lives with Reorx , who is the god of the forge, worshipped by the dwarves. According to Paladine , he awaits Tas there, under a tree.
