Situated over a harbour on the River Dee Estuary , construction began in 1277 for nine years. The work was never completed and as a result the structure is not as tall as other castles of its time, such as Denbigh and Rhuddlan . Occupation changed many times during the English Civil War and it has also been used as a quarry. |
