Flight 29 Down is a television show for children about a group of mostly teenagers who are stranded on an island. It is produced by the Discovery Kids Channel where it is repeated after airing on NBC on Saturday mornings as part of Discovery Kids On NBC . The show is filmed in O'ahu, Hawaii.

SYNOPSIS

The show follows a group of kids stranded on a South Pacific island after the crash of a small plane while flying to an eco-adventure camping trip in Micronesia . A plot device of a video diary powered by a solar battery charger allows the kids to talk to the camera about their everyday struggles they deal with the island and with each other.

Arguably, the show is much like the ABC drama '' Lost ''. However, the show is targeted towards kids, featuring teenage stereotypes and focusing heavily on social order and teamwork. It should also be noted that the show was developed before "Lost" aired. It can also be thought of as a scripted version of '' Endurance '', another Discovery Kids program.

CHARACTERS

  • Daley ( Hallee Hirsh - ''ER'' , '' You've Got Mail '') The recently elected class president of Hartwell High School. A hard worker who is fiercely competitive and a bit of a perfectionist. She relies less on others since her mom died of cancer when she was in seventh grade.

  • Eric ( Jeremy Kissner - ''Great Expectations'' ) One of the more popular students at Hartwell, a bit of a flirt with the girls and is trying to hook up with Taylor. He is more of a slacker and a comedian than anything else. He also tends to manipulate people to get out of various responsibilities.

  • Jackson ( Johnny Pacar - Disney Channel 's '' Now You See It '', '' American Dreams '') A quiet, intimidating guy who always keeps to himself (as he was the new kid at Hartwell High). On the island, Jackson brings order to the group when it is needed. As a result, he is elected the leader of the stranded and continues to keep the peace.

  • Lex ( Allen Alvarado ) Daley's younger stepbrother who is intelligent and very observant, although the group constantly ignores him. He always comes up with the best ideas on how to adapt to the island and make use of its resources.

  • Melissa ( Kristy Wu - '' Cry Wolf '') An optmistic person who wants everyone to get along. She is a member of every major club at school. She has her loyalties torn between Nathan and Daley. Sometimes Melissa feels very meek and pushed around but at times has shown her own sense of leadership in major emergencies. Since being on the island has developed a crush on Jackson.

  • Nathan McHugh ( Corbin Bleu - '' Catch That Kid '', Disney Channel's '' High School Musical '') Believes he is the natural leader since as is a Boy Scout back home, this places him in a neverending rivalry with Daley. He always came in second to Daley, including in the class president elections. He and Taylor formerly dated because he thought she liked football. He saw her dotting her i's with footballs, but it turned out that she was trying to draw flowers and does not like football. Nathan tends speak before he thinks, causing him to be at odds with Jackson. In the episode Until Proven Guilty, he admits to Melissa that he has a crush on Daley.

  • Taylor Hagan ( Lauren Storm - '' Malcolm In The Middle '') The vain girl of the group and kind of a ditz. She wanted to use the camera to make a movie about how she came to the rescue after the plane crashed so she could become "famous". She has no survival skills and has the most difficulty adapting to the island and doing what is needed to stay alive on the island.

  • Captain Russell – The pilot of Flight 29 and the only adult on the island, he seems clueless and unresourceful. He lead a group of kids into the island in search for help but has not returned since.

  • The Others – Consists of the three other students on the plane (Abby, Jory, and Ian). They were mostly quiet and hung around each other forming their own separate family from the main characters. They joined Captain Russell in searching for help. About a week after leaving, Abby was found alone and unconscious in the jungle and brought back to camp. It is revealed that she got separated from them during a big storm. After spending a day in the camp Abby went back into the jungle to look for her friends and Captain Russell.

CONTINUITY ERRORS

So far, two major continuity errors have appeared on the show. The first was in episode one ("Arrival") in which the Others and Captain Russell searched the island to find help. In the final scene of episode one, they are shown returning to camp with Captain Russell saying that they would be on the island for a while, assuming that the island was indeed completely deserted. These four characters were absent in all the episodes following that until episode 10 ("Eight is Enough") where Abby returns to camp. It is revealed that all this time Captain Russell and the Others were absent from episodes 2-9 because they were still searching the island. At this time in the series, Abby has left the beach camp and has gone back into the jungle to search for her lost companions that she got separated from during a storm.

The other continuity error is the name of the other girl that went with Abby, Ian, and Captain Russell on the search party. In episode 10 ("Eight is Enough") she was referred to as "Tori" but in the following episode ("Abby Normal") she was referred to as "Julie". But in the book, Tori/Julie's name is Jory.So as of now, we really dont know that real name of the other girl who's on the search party.

The name of the other girl who went with Abby, Ian and captain Russell is named Jory. Both taylor and Abby did say "Jory" not "Tori" or "Julie", it might have sounded like that but in many places her name is listed as Jory.
