While this flag has not officially been adopted, it was first raised on December 14 , 1980 , upon the opening of the Airport on Nuku Hiva , and has been regularly used since 1994 . This is a simplified form of the flag above. Since the Marquesas Islands do not have an official flag, such stylized alterations are equally valid as that shown above.
