fischertechnik® (the lowercase is deliberately used in the trademarked name) is a brand of construction toy. It was invented by Artur Fischer and is produced by '''Artur Fischer GmbH & Co.KG''' ('''fischerwerke'''). Fans often refer to fischertechnik as FT or ft. It is used in education for teaching about simple machines, as well as motorization and mechanisms. The company also offers computer interface technology which can be used to teach the theory of automation and robotics. It is claimed at some of the websites researched for this article that the company's main product line is industrial fasteners and that the company principals got into the educational line some 40 years ago when they became interested in fostering education and interest in technology and science among the young. In some ways it is a competitor of LEGO , especially in their Technic and MindStorms lines. However FT tends to market to educational and high-end specialty retailers more than LEGO does, and has not ever done movie or character tie-ins as a marketing vehicle. FT uses a visual programming language, RoboPRO, to allow users to program their devices and robots. This software is available for Windows and Linux. EXTERNAL REFERENCES
