Distributed by New Line Cinema, written by Glen Morgan, and James Wong , Produced by Craig Perry and Directed by James Wong, who directed the first '' Final Destination '' movie. PLOT

: Tagline : ''This Ride Will Be The Death Of You.''

Set six years after the first film, young photographer Wendy Christensen has a gruesome vision of a derailing on a Roller Coaster , Devil's Flight, and, as a result, manages to escape from the ride with some friends, just before it crashes with her other friends on board. To her horror, she discovers that the Photograph s she took before the accident foretell the deaths of others who escaped the disaster. Now Death wants to reclaim each victim in the order they were sitting on the ride.

Plot concerns

The impact that Frank's camera had on the derailment is subject to debate on movie forums. Many say that the camera "accelerated" the crash, but the deaths happen at the same time either way. It is generally concluded that Death had planned for the coaster to crash, and that Death would make the coaster crash no matter what.

In the film, photos taken from before the roller coaster crash give clues as to how people would later die. However it was their fate to die in the crash, so the pictures couldn't possibly have depicted events that were not fated to happen.
However, in the first two movies, the survivors of the accidents used coincidences in an attempt to figure out how and when Death would strike (e.g. The Hook Man in the closet in Final Destination 2 ). Some believe that in this movie, the pictures contained those coincidences.

It can be stressed, however, that the camera should have been destroyed in the crash, since it was in Kevin's pocket. With that consideration, it would make sense then that the pictures the camera had taken were reflective of the fate both it and the teenagers' ''should'' have suffered.

Deaths

There is a foreshadowing after the opening credits. After Wendy takes a picture of the "HIGH DIVE" sign, the picture in her camera shows the ''V'' lit out, making "HIGH DIE".
Death's original design is Ashley and Ashlyn, Frankie, Lewis, Ian, Erin, Julie, Perry, Kevin, and Wendy. The order in which they actually die is different because some get saved and moved to the end of the order. The actual order of death is as follows:

Ashley Freund and '''Ashlyn Halperin:'''
''Premonition:''
In Wendy's premonition, Ashley was sitting in the fifth row of cars on the roller coaster with Ashlyn Halperin. When the first six cars detach from the rest of the roller coaster, they are sent toppling to their death below.
''Real Life Death:''
Later, after the ten people get off the doomed roller coaster, Ashley and Ashlyn decide to go for a tan at the Phoenix Tanning Salon to look good for graduation. When they arrive, the owner of the tanning salon is forced to take a call from his girlfriend. He lets the two girls manage the tanning beds themselves after making sure they throw their drinks out before heading in. As he uses a bottle of lotion to hold the backdoor open while he talks to his girlfriend, Ashlyn locks the front door, and Ashley sneaks her slurpee into the tanning room. As she sets it on the bench above the heater that controls the tanning beds, the two girls search for some CD's to listen to. As one of them leans on the CD rack, she unknowingly loosens a few screws attaching it to the wall. The two get undressed and lay down in the tanning beds while listening to their music. Ashley's drink, in the meantime, begins to drip water down into the heater, causing it to malfunction, unknown to the two girls. Outside the tanning room, the backdoor squishes the bottle of lotion, closing the door and locking it, leaving the owner locked outside. By now, the girls notice the tanning bed's are getting a bit too hot. As Wendy attempts to get hold of Ashley via her cell phone, Ashley's cell phone vibrates in her coat pocket, causing the coat rack the jacket is hanging on to wobble. The air conditioning kicks in from the heater, and the gust of wind from it topples the coat rack over. The coat rack knocks over a shelf holding a plant, and the plant topples into the CD rack, which falls off the wall and onto Ashley's bed. As the two girl's open their doors, the CD rack slides from the top of Ashley's bed and locks into the handle of Ashlyn's bed, and as she opens hers, it slides into Ashley's handle as well, jamming the tanning beds shut. As the girls start to panic, the heater continues to spark and raise it's temperature, causing the tanning beds to get more and more hot. The two girls start to panic more, trying to get out, tearing at the fans at the head of each beds, but to no avail. Ashley's struggling causes the glass bed to shatter, causing her to fall into the wiring and lamps below, while Ashlyn continues screaming. As their skin burns and blackens with boils rising from the heat, the lamps above explode, lighting the two beds on fire, eventually roasting the two girls to death.
''Clues to Death:''
In the beginning credits, a poster is shown of two girls being electrocuted. This resembles Ashley and Ashlyn's deaths.
In their picture, they were posing with a large inflatable palm tree that Ashley won, and a red and orange wave is spreading from the bottom-right of the picture. The red and orange wave, which was caused by a blinking light, resembles a wave of heat or flame erupting from below, like the flames of the tanning beds. The palm tree resembles the plant that knocked over the CD rack, and the symbol of the tanning salon. Also, the name of the place they die is PHOENIX Tanning Co. The Phoenix is a bird known for bursting into flames, which is clue to their deaths.
While Wendy is examining their picture, her lamp bulb explodes, foreshadowing the lamp bulbs inside the tanning beds that explode, lighting the beds on fire.

Frankie Cheeks:
''Premonition:''
In Wendy's premonition, Frankie was sitting in the sixth row of cars on the roller coaster by himself. When the first six cars detach from the rest of the roller coaster, he is sent toppling to his death below.
''Real Life Death:''
Later, after the ten people get off the doomed roller coaster, and after Ashley and Ashlyn both die, Wendy and Kevin head to a drive-thru. Ahead of them, there is some guy in a convertible, and behind them, a bickering couple in a truck. A large beer truck backs up and jams into Kevin’s truck from the passenger side, and Wendy is trapped. Kevin’s door cannot open because it is jammed into the wall of the drive-thru. Behind them, a large runaway truck rolls down a steep hill, picking up speed as it heads for the drive-thru. Kevin honks to get the guy ahead to pull up, but he only responds by fingering them. Behind them, the couple back out of the drive-thru just in time as the runaway truck steers itself into the drive-thru. Kevin smashes the windshield open, and he and Wendy escape, just as the large truck smashes into Kevin’s vehicle. His truck is then mounted onto the convertible, and the motor shoots out of the hood, slicing the guy’ head up with the motor-fan. Wendy and Kevin look up, and notice that the person ahead of them was none other than Frankie. The motor-fan spins once more, slicing the back of Frankie’s head apart.
''Clues to Death:''
In the beginning credits, a poster is shown with a bald man holding a saw blade in his mouth. This resembles Frankie’s death by the motor-fan.
In his picture, he is just walking by. Behind him, there is a fan at the back of his head. The fan blades are whirring, making it look like the fan is sticking out of his head, like the fan blades of the motor-fan that tore the back of his head up.
As Wendy and Kevin are sitting in Kevin’s truck, the radio malfunctions, and begins singing “Turn Around, Look At Me”, hinting at the runaway truck rolling down the hill behind them.

Lewis Romero:
''Premonition:''
In Wendy’s premonition, Lewis is sitting in the seventh car by himself. After the first six cars detach and hurtle off the track, Lewis swings out of his car, but hold onto the harness. Soon enough, it gives way, and he flies backwards, but Kevin catches him. Finally, Lewis is thrown from Kevin’s grip, and he smashes into a bar, jamming it in the wrong direction, and smashes into the track.
''Real Life Death:''
Later, after the ten people get off the doomed roller coaster, and after three of them die following the coaster crash, Wendy and Kevin find Lewis working out at the gym with his football team. While arguing with Wendy and Kevin, Lewis sits on the next machine and starts pulling down on the weights. After a short chain of events cause vibrations to loosen the swords on the plaque above the machine Lewis is working on, the swords swing loose, slicing a wire, and narrowly missing Lewis’ head. Lewis shouts in victory, and does one last pull, not knowing that the wire holding the weights together has been cut. The two weights swing down, and smash together, crushing Lewis’ head in an instant, splattering blood everywhere.
''Clues to Death:''
In the beginning credits, a poster is shown with a strong man swallowing a sword. This hints at Lewis’ death caused by the swinging swords.
In his picture, he is swinging a mallet down at the ‘Test Your Strength’ game, and is bent in such a way that his head is not visible. The weight is shooting up, but looks like it is plummeting downwards where Lewis’ head should be. There is a stand showing a sultan holding two crossed swords, and in the corner of the picture, a stuffed teddy bear that is crying. The crossed swords symbolize the two crossed swords on the plaque. The name of the team is ‘The Sultans’. The crying teddy bear hints at the stuffed bear that is a mascot of an opposing team, that the Sultan’s are using as a punching bag.

Ian McKinley (Intervened) and '''Erin Ulmer:'''
''Premonition:''
In Wendy’s premonition, the roller coaster begins slowing down, and comes to a stop in the middle of a loop. Ian and Erin are left dangling from their harnesses, but Ian then drops to the ground below, followed by Erin.
''Real Life Death (First Attempt):''
While working late at ‘Build It’, a gradual chain of events leads to a forklift jamming it’s prongs into a shelf, and raising it, putting pressure on a folded ladder next to a box of stakes. As Ian stands in front of the shelf, the ladder snaps shut, and the box of stakes drop, point first. Wendy manages to tackle Ian out of the way in the nick of time, as the stakes would have stabbed into Ian, killing him if he’d been left there. More boards and supplies drop down from the shelf, landing on Ian, Kevin, and Wendy, trapping them as a board is jabbed into a bag of sawdust. The sawdust gets in Erin’s eye, and she falls back, and the back of her head meets the nozzle of a nail gun, which proceeds to pump a round of nails through Erin’s head, pinning her right hand to her face. She lets out one last whimper as blood pours from her mouth and nose before she dies.
''Clues to Death:''
In the beginning credits, a poster is shown of a girl with nails sticking out of her face, hinting directly at Erin’s fate.
In their picture, they are standing at a skill-shooting game. Ian is standing under a string of flags pointed downwards, each with a letter, spelling out S-K-I-L-L. However, the S is hidden in shadows, leaving the banner spelling K-I-L-L. The flags represent the fence post stakes that almost kill Ian. In the picture, Erin is hiding her face with her right hand, while fingering the camera with her left. Ian is unknowingly aiming the gun at her face. This also refers to her death, with her hand in front of her face and the gun representing the nail-gun.

Julie Christensen (Intervened)''':'''
''Premonition:''
In Wendy’s premonition, Julie is sitting with Perry behind Ian and Erin. When the roller coaster stops in the middle of the loop, Ian and Erin drop out of their seats, followed by Julie and Perry.
''Real Life Death (First Attempt):''
As Julie argues with Kevin at the fair, a runaway horse races through the crowd, and knocks Julie aside. The rope that was holding the horse to the ground whips around Julie’s neck, and begins dragging her along after the horse. As Kevin grabs a sword, he races after her, just as the horse almost drags her into the spikes of a wheat-thresher. Kevin cuts the rope just in time to prevent her death, and she is skipped.
''Clues to Death:''
In her picture, Julie is fingering the camera with both her hands, just like she was when the horse knocked her aside. Also in her picture, a carousel is visible behind her, and a white horse is clear. This horse hints at the horse that drags Julie along, almost spiking her on the wheat-thresher.

Perry Malinowski:
''Premonition:''
In Wendy’s premonition, Perry is sitting with Julie behind Ian and Erin. When the roller coaster stops in the middle of the loop, Ian and Erin drop out of their seats, followed by Julie and Perry.
''Real Life Death:''
After chasing after Julie who is barely saved, Perry stands up in fear. The horse that was dragging Julie along has been tied to a flagpole, but is again frightened by some fireworks. It breaks free, sending the flagpole shooting up into the air, and as Perry stands, the flagpole spears through her from behind, jabbing into the ground, splattering blood everywhere. She then slides slowly down the pole, dead.
''Clues to Death:''
In her picture, Perry is standing with Julie. Above her, there is a flag, representing the flagpole that spears her later.

Kevin Fischer (Intervened)''':'''
''Premonition:''
In Wendy’s premonition, he and Wendy are the last ones left on the roller coaster, which is stopped in the middle of a loop. As they shift back to cause the coaster to roll back, it shoots backwards down the loop. Wendy sits right back down, whereas Kevin doesn’t have a chance, as he is sliced out of his seat by the bent bar that Lewis bent, killing him.
''Real Life Death (First Attempt):''
In all the confusion at the fair, after Perry is speared by the flagpole, the runaway horse then kicks Kevin backwards over the concession table. One of the shish kabobs drops, jabbing into the gas line, spraying gas into the flames of the grill. As Kevin stands up, Wendy pulls him back as the grill explodes, almost taking his head with it. He is skipped.
''Clues to Death:''
In his picture, his face is in pain, and a flash illuminates it, as if something were exploding in his face, like the grill in his second near death experience.

Wendy Christensen (Intervened)''':'''
''Premonition:''
In Wendy’s premonition, she is the last one left on the coaster, moments after Kevin is sliced out of his seat. She screams in terror as the coaster rolls backwards, hitting a break in the track, sending the roller coaster off the tracks. She falls out of her seat and lands on the tracks.
''Real Life Death (First Attempt):''
After pulling Kevin back at the last second, she, Kevin, and Julie all limp away from Ian, who continues to try to scare Wendy. She believes that Ian will be the cause of her death, and this encourages him. He backs up behind a large cherry picker, while behind Wendy, Julie, and Kevin, a cart of fireworks topples over, and shoots it’s remaining fireworks at all of them, but misses everyone, instead exploding at the base of the cherry-picker. At the top of the arm of the cherry picker, there is a large sign that says, ‘McKinley’ attached to the basket. Since there was no clue as to the fireworks, it can only be assumed that Wendy was supposed to end up under the sign with Ian when it collapsed, but Julie and Kevin unknowingly intervened by keeping her away from the collapsing cherry-picker, skipping Wendy and killing Ian.
''Clues to Death:''
In her picture, Wendy is with her dead boyfriend. Her shirt says ‘McKinley’ in large red letters, similar to the word ‘McKinley’ on the cherry picker sign that almost crushed her.

Ian McKinley:
''Real Life Death (Second Attempt):''
After following Wendy to the fair, Ian tries to intimidate her, unknowingly backing up under a large cherry picker. A cart of fireworks tips over, launching fireworks towards the gang of survivors, missing all of them, but exploding at the base of the cherry picker. The joints of the arm loosen, and the cherry picker collapses downwards, the basket and sign smashing into Ian. The force of the falling basket causes Ian to be snapped in half under the sign, and as his bottom half is sent skidding out from under it, he dies, his middle finger still twitching.
''Clues to Death:''
It is not clear, but the sign pointing to the cherry picker, if there is one, may be the banner flags above Ian in his picture, which are the same shape as the sign at the top of the cherry picker. It may also be the fact that the sign at the top of the cherry picker said ‘McKinley’, which was Ian’s last name, but it does not show up in Ian’s picture.

Julie Christensen:
''Real Life Death (Second Attempt):''
Five months after Ian is killed, Julie, Wendy, and Kevin all meet up on the subway by chance. Soon enough, they are caught up in another premonition, in which the train derails and jackknives into it’s own side. As the train smashes through the tunnel, flying debris, possibly one of the train’s wheels, smashes through one set of doors, collides and clears out Julie, and smashes out the next set of doors in no more than one second. It is unclear if the premonition came true or not, but chances are that it did.
''Clues to Death:''
In Julie’s second picture, a hand was waving in front of the camera when the picture was taken. Julie’s arms are visible behind the hand, in a position that makes it look like the hand is smashing through her. This hints at the debris that smashes her out the doors of the train.

Kevin Fischer:
''Real Life Death (Second Attempt):''
Five months after Ian is killed, Julie, Wendy, and Kevin all meet up on the subway by chance. Soon enough, they are caught up in another premonition, in which the train derails and jackknives into it’s own side. As the train smashes through the tunnel, it eventually topples onto it’s side, and Kevin is thrown against the window, which gives way. Kevin falls through the window as the train grinds along the ground, splattering Kevin along the tracks. It is unclear if the premonition came true or not, but chances are that it did.
''Clues to Death:''
In Kevin’s picture, his face is flooded with light and shows an expression of pain, the same one as when he was thrown into the window face first before it gave way.

Wendy Christensen:
''Real Life Death (Second Attempt):''
Five months after Ian is killed, Julie, Wendy, and Kevin all meet up on the subway by chance. Soon enough, they are caught up in another premonition, in which the train derails and jackknives into it’s own side. As the train smashes through the tunnel, it eventually topples onto it’s side, and comes to a stop, scattered across the tracks. Wendy, who was thrown from the train after Kevin died, finds herself on the track with a broken leg. As she looks up, a light shoots around the corner as another train speeds towards her, smashing into her. It is unclear if the premonition came true or not, but chances are that it did.
''Clues to Death:''
In her picture, she is with her boyfriend, who’s face was moving when the picture was taken, causing it to turn out as a blur, while her face is clear. This resembles the fact that when Wendy looked out the window, the people the train was passing has blurred faces, while Wendy’s was clear in her reflection.

ORIGINAL ENDING

  • The original endings takes place right after the death of Ian. Wendy, Kevin, and Julie (along with friend, Amber), discover the yearbook camera on the ground. In a fit of rage, Wendy crushes it with her heel. The four friends walk away and just as they do, the camera takes a picture of the group. Then, Wendy realizes that it isn't over. She thinks back to what Ian said earlier. His words were, "What if some people held on longer than others after they fell from the coaster?". Wendy thinks back to Ian and Erin's picture, Ian posed the exact same way when he died. She then freaks out, realizing that she and Kevin and Julie are still fair game. And the worst thing about it, they have no clue who will be next or how they die.

RESPONSE

Fan response to the film was largely positive, expressing acclaim for the creativity of the death scenes, although some felt that some of the death scenes were unnecessarily gory and cruel, with most criticism being directed at the sunbed scene. Critical response was far less forgiving. On Rotten Tomatoes , the film was rated at 44%, although the original two films, both financial successes, received equally poor scores. Besides deriding the film for the high level of violence and the reference to the attacks on the World Trade Center in September 2001, a common complaint directed at the film was that it failed to offer anything new. The BBC awarded a rare 1 star out of 5, despite awarding the first installment four stars and the second three.

BOX OFFICE

The film was released in the United States on February 10 , 2006 with estimated opening weekend takings slightly under twenty million US dollars.

As of April 3 , 2006 , the film unadjustably grossed a total of $53.7 million in the United States Box Office narrowly defeating the original to become the highest grossing film out of the trilogy, domestically.
It has made $31.7 million overseas, with many more places still to open.

RELEASE DATES

CAST

TRIVIA

  • Final Destination 4 is rumored to be in the works.

  • The Final Destination 3 and the Wedding Crashers DVD . Additionally, there are three TV spots that are aired on Fox Broadcasting Company , the WB Television Network and the American Broadcasting Company which show more of the movie than the theatrical trailer. {Link without Title}

  • The title was previously known as ''Cheating Death: Final Destination 3'' & ''Final Destination 3-D''. 3-D was considered for the film, but it was deemed too expensive and complicated.

  • Most of the early gore (what happens to Ashley and Ashlyn after the former's upper bulbs blew up on her, and the final of Frankie's death) have been cut in the Italian version of the movie. Reasons are unknown. Probably Eagle Pictures , the Italian distributor for the movie, wanted to get a Tutti (the Italian Censorship equivalent of the US Ratings from G to PG), as did the other 2 films. The film was the first in the series to receive an 18 rating in Germany, in comparison to the 16 rating the first two instalments received.

  • The connections to the previous Final Destination films are the character of Carrie Dreyer ( Gina Holden ), whose cousin, Blake Dreyer ( Christine Chatelain ) died on the plane in the first movie (not mentioned in the movie), that Flight 180 is mentioned by Kevin, and when Wendy finds a picture showing the car pileup from FD2 (though there was no mention of the premonition or anything related to FD2, fans of the series should know what that is when they see the picture).

  • The film has an alternate ending (as the train ending was later put in) and it may be available on DVD. According to the Internet Movie Database , the film was supposed to run 115 minutes, but was cut down to 92 minutes, due to these reshoots. When the new ending (the subway train ending) was being filmed, Kimberly and Officer Burke from Final Destination 2 were supposed to be on the subway train that crashes with Wendy, Kevin, and Julie. But due to scheduling problems, A. J. Cook and Michael Landes could not make it.

  • Tony Todd, who played the mysterious mortician in the first two films and was not expected to return for the third, had a cameo. Less than a month before release the filmmakers decided to draft Todd in for a voiceover role. The actor’s deep intonations were now heard as the demonic host of the doomed roller coaster that the movie’s victims board at the beginning of the movie. His voice is also heard as the driver of the train at the ending of the film. {Link without Title}

  • The tanning bed scene was based on two urban legends. One is the legend of a bride-to-be, in some versions a sorority girl, who wanted the perfect tan but ended up cooking her insides by over-using tanning beds. The second legend involves The Ohio Player's hit song "Love Rollercoaster" which plays during the tanning scene. The legend goes that the scream heard between the first and second verses of the song is that of a woman being murdered while the song was being recorded. Both these legends were also featured in the , featured a tanning bed death scene.

  • In the movie, Frankie dies at Andy's Burgers. However, in the book, it is called Butchie's Burgers.

  • The song they play at Ashley and Ashlyn's funeral in the background is the same song from the memorial of the crash flight 180 in Final Destination .

  • The song that plays on the small radio that's turned on during the weight room scene is (Həd) P.E. 's "Killing Time".

  • The HICE Pale Ale truck that blocks in Kevin's car at the Fat Burger joint is the same truck that Kimberly notices passing her just before the car pileup happens in FD2.

  • Like the first two films, some of the character's names are derived from actors and directors of classic horror movies, including George A. Romero and Roman Polanski .

  • In the original script, some of the characters had different names. Ashley and Ashlyn were originally "Jennifer and Jessica"; Lewis was "Hector"; Ian was "Logan"; Erin was "Phoebe". On IMDB, Perry was "Ling".

  • The rollercoaster scene was originally going to show a part where Ashley, Ashlyn, and Frankie's car fell apart. It may be available on DVD.

  • Rumors about Amber (Julie's friend, played by Ecstasia Sanders ) were spreading that originally, Amber was going to be on the rollercoaster too, sitting next to Lewis, and even had a death scene (involving a treadmill) and these scenes were going to appear on the DVD. The rumor is highly doubtful though.

  • The DVD will be released on July 25, 2006.

  • In the original script, Julie had heart conditions and was almost killed from the trauma of her near death experience at the Tri-centennial.

  • Originally, the character of Perry was white, but during casting Maggie Ma was chosen for the part.

  • Final Destination DVD Cover Arts are prevoided by dvdactive. Featuring the 4-Disc Thrillogy DVD Boxset carrying all three films with a bonus disc carrying extra features. Seprate Full and Widescreen FD3 2-Disc Thrill Ride Editions will be available the sameday.

  • In the original script, the hardware store that Ian and Erin worked in was called "HomeLand Warehouse" but in the final script it was changed to "Build It!"

  • In the novelization of the movie, and in the previous versions of the script, Kevin and Wendy begin to have strong feelings for each other as more characters die. There was even a scene in which Kevin and Wendy ran from the death scene of Lewis and into an empty locker room to shower Lewis' blood from themselves. Kevin strips nude and Wendy is rather bashful. To avoid suspicion, from intruding jocks, they fake an intercourse so the boys will leave them alone.
