Information About

Film Monthly

Film Monthly Film Monthly is an online magazine of film reviews, interviews with filmmakers and celebrities, coverage of film festivals, the latest film news and information, and more. Now in their seventh year, the site began with only three contributing writers and a readership of less than 100 persons per month. Currently the site boasts over 30 contributing writers and averages 1 million new readers per month.

Originally started by two writers, Del Harvey and Jon Bastian, the magazine has enjoyed the varied talents of many writers over the years, plus changes in managerial direction and layout. The other long-term contributor who has been with the site from its inception is Los Angeles' own Hank Yuloff. The past five years have seen the most growth and expansion, marked by the addition of interviews with A-list celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Peter Jackson, Kate Beckinsale, Hugo Weaving, Lasse Halstrom, Scarlett Johansson, LL Cool J, and the list goes on and on and on. Two years ago, the site began offering a review service for independent films, which helped boost recognition as well as being one of the very few sites on the web which provides a PR outlet for first-time and independent short filmmakers.

Another area of focus has been Film Noir, including coverage of annual noir fests around the West Coast by Alan Rode. Additionally, the site presents specific sections on Horror, Asian Film, Silent Film, and films recently released to DVD. There are a number of top notch columnists who write for the site, the pre-eminent among them being Wayne Case. At the time of this article, other columnists include Clint Fletcher, Ben Beard, and Steve Anderson.

Film Monthly is published monthly with weekly updates. Film Monthly are a registered subscription service (ISSN #02339), and has been recognized as a “cool site” by both USA Today and Netsurfer Digest. Their reviews are carried by Yahoo!’s MRQE, the IMDB, and Rotten Tomatoes.
