MOVIES

  • Another anime series, '' Yomigaeru Sora - Rescue Wings '', focuses on the Komatsu Air Rescue Squadron of the JASDF , based at Komatsu Airbase; the squadron's missions are disaster relief and Search & Rescue. In Episodes 2 and 3, the squadron mobilizes to conduct SAR and disaster relief on a Japanese island devastated by an earthquake, and is supported by ''JDS Haruna'' (DDH-141) of the JMSDF .

  • The JSDF play a major role in Patlabor 2 . In the begining of the film, a slight story of a JGSDF UN contingent in Southeast Asia in the year 1999, possibly in Cambodia. The opening sequence questions on the U.N. Peacekeeping Law and whether the JSDF does have the support of the people to be deployed in UN-led peacekeeping opeartions. 1

  • ---Further in the film, the JSDF attempt a Coup and deploy into Tokyo , after events lead to strife between the JSDF and the National Police Agency , in particular the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department . This deployment enables the protaganist of the film to exact his revenge on those he felt abandoned him in Southeast Asia during the begining of the film.

  • Japan was placed under martial law, which was enforced by the JGSDF due to appearance of fish-like monsters in Gyo .

  • The JGSDF has been portrayed in the manga First President Of Japan .

  • The JSSDF, or Japanese Strategic Self Defense Force, a fictional branch of the JSDF, plays a large part in the movie , where the Prime Minister authorises the destruction of the EVA series and NERV.



VIDEO GAMES

  • In the video game , there is a fictional branch of the JSDF known as the Information Self Defence Force. This group was created to protect Japan from Information Warfare attacks.

  • In the video game Front Mission 3 , the JDF (Japanese Defense Force) is one of the organizations involved in a sinister plot about a fictional superweapon called M.I.D.A.S.

  • A JGSDF soldier was a playable character in Lethal Enforcers 3 .

  • Takeaki Misawa and Yorito Nagai are two playable characters as JGSDF troopers in Siren 2 . They were stranded in Yamijima island.
