Farmington in Louisville, Kentucky , was the home of the Speed family. The 14-room Federal Style home was designed by Thomas Jefferson and completed in 1816 as the center of a Hemp plantation owned by John and Lucy Gilmer Fry. Their son Joshua Fry Speed was an intimate friend of Abraham Lincoln , and Lincoln spent several weeks at Farmington in 1841. John and Lucy's son James Speed was appointed Attorney General Of The United States by Lincoln in 1863 .
