Information About

Farm To Market Road 1093

Texas Farm to Market Road 1093, or '''FM 1093''', is a highway going through Harris , Fort Bend , Austin , Wharton , and Colorado counties in southeast Texas. In Houston, it is locally known as Westheimer Road.

HISTORY

F.M. 1093 was built in the 1950s . At first it was a minor road that went through sparsely populated country. Then eventually as more buildings were built, including the Galleria shopping mall, it became more busy, until it became one of the most traveled surface streets in Houston, with eight sustained lanes (four each way) within Houston city limits and a constant traffic problem — even with the number of lanes.

TERMINI

FM 1093 begins at Interstate 610 (West Loop) in Houston. It runs for 50.5 miles in a southwesterly direction, ending at FM 3013 in Eagle Lake , in Colorado County .

EFFECTS OF WESTPARK TOLLWAY

FM 1093 runs concurrently west in Fort Bend County at Texas State Highway 99 (Grand Parkway) with the Westpark Tollway after the two begin separately in Houston. It is currently serving as a feeder road for the tollway during the concurrency, but it is still known as FM 1093. As FM 1093 is already a well-traveled road within Houston city limits, the Westpark Tollway was intended to lessen the traffic flow on Westheimer Road for those commuting to and from places less accessible to Interstate 10 and US 59 , the other main arteries to and from the city.
