ABOUT THE FOUNDATION As said on the official website for the Fairfield Community Theatre Foundation , "The Community Theatre Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable entertainment, unites young people in the spirit of volunteerism, and acts as a catalyst for community involvement, inspiration and support." PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHMENT Established in 2001 to save, restore and operate the historic landmark movie theater in Fairfield, Connecticut, the Foundation presents films at the cost of only four dollars per ticket and provides direct financial and promotional support to other local nonprofit organizations that serve our neighbors. VOLUNTEERS The Fairfield Community Theatre Foundation is operated entirely by a volunteer staff and D Fip. Accept for the general manager of the premises, all staff works for community service hours. The staff is mostly under the age of eighteen, and the Fairfield Community Theatre Foundation is a popular place for youngsters to earn community service hours in order to apply for colleges. LOCATION The Fairfield Community Theatre Foundation is located at 1424 Post Road, Fairfield, Connecticut 06824 FOUNDER Leo Redgate is the owner of the Fairfield Community Theatre Foundation. He has shown his film in progress, "First Time Caller" many times throughout the theatre's history. It contains many famous actors and cameos. THEATRE CONSTRUCTION OVER THE YEARS The theater was once a single screen system, but in 1979 it was converted into a dual screen theater. There are many hints to the proof that it was a single screen. There are many stories regarding the theatre's changing construction. For instance, behind one of the balconies, there used to be an office. It was accompanied with a lounge, but in 1950, the owner decided to make the office bigger, compromising the lounge. The theatre contains an old lift, which would lift an organ out of the basement and onto the stage. Today, this lift is still operational. The theater was also home to actual stage performances, but again, it was converted into a more modern theater in the 1970's. |
