There was another town named Fairfield, Ohio that was located Northeast of Dayton, Ohio . That Fairfield was merged with neighboring Osborn, Ohio to make up the present day city of Fairborn, Ohio in 1950.


GEOGRAPHY


According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 54.6 Km&2 (21.1 Mi&2 ). 54.4 km&2 (21.0 mi&2) of it is land and 0.2 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.43% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 42,097 people, 16,960 households, and 11,363 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 774.4/km&2 (2,005.5/mi&2). There were 17,789 housing units at an average density of 327.2/km&2 (847.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 89.86% White , 6.07% Black or African American , 0.13% Native American , 2.25% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 0.51% from Other Races , and 1.13% from two or more races. 1.53% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 16,960 households out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% were Married Couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.99.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $50,316, and the median income for a family was $61,233. Males had a median income of $42,234 versus $29,842 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $24,556. 4.2% of the population and 2.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 4.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
