The Village of Fair Haven is in the Town Of Sterling . It is also a harbor on Lake Ontario . Route 104A passes through the village. Fair Haven State Park is located northeast of the village. GEOGRAPHY Fair Haven is located at the south end of Little Sodus Bay, on ''' Lake Ontario '''. Fair Haven is located at 43°19'27" North, 76°42'19" West (43.324175, -76.705154). According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 7.6 Km&2 (2.9 Mi&2 ). 4.6 km&2 (1.8 mi&2) of it is land and 3.0 km&2 (1.2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 39.73% water. Fair Haven is quite the recreational fishing neighborhood. Plenty of opportunities to try fishing. When the Fair Haven Bay freezes there are huts and rental huts available for ice fishing. When you're not wanting to fish, the Fair Haven Beach State Park is open year round. The park has tenting sites w/o electric hook-up and sites w/ electric. The beach is open during the summer supervised by trained waterfront lifeguards. And the pier is a great place to take walk. It has been measured to be a quarter of a mile all the way out. If you really get tired of the water and the outdoors, drive about 10 miles north on Route 104A and follow the signs to the Sterling Renaissance Festival. Great place to find out what different eras were like and what culture was like back in the day! DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 884 people, 395 households, and 259 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 193.9/km&2 (503.3/mi&2). There were 727 housing units at an average density of 159.5/km&2 (413.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.19% White , 0.11% African American , 0.68% Native American , 0.11% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.34% from Other Races , and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 395 households out of which 21.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% were Married Couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.67. In the village the population was spread out with 20.2% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 29.6% from 45 to 64, and 21.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males. The median income for a household in the village was $36,382, and the median income for a family was $39,091. Males had a median income of $37,917 versus $26,250 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $18,287. 8.4% of the population and 4.3% of families were below the Poverty Line . 9.6% of those under the age of 18 and 12.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
