Borrowing heavily from the Reality Television genre, the show depicts real-life people (both men and women) undergoing an "extreme makeover" involving Plastic Surgery , exercise regimes, hairdressing and wardrobing. Each episode ends with the subjects' return to their families and friends, showing the reactions of their loved ones, who have not been allowed to see the incremental changes during the subjects' absence. '' but was a one-time special due to low ratings. SUICIDE INCIDENT On September 9 2005 , the producers of the show were sued by Deleese Williams, a thirty-year-old woman from Conroe, Texas , whose sister killed herself after Williams was dropped as a contestant. Williams was promised a " Cinderella -like makeover" by the producers of ''Extreme Makeover''. As part of the show's filming process, her family degraded her appearance on camera. About half way through Williams' makover, she was dropped off the show because she was not recovering from her dental surgery within the show's timeframe. Four months later, her sister Kellie McGee committed suicide due, Williams claims, to the guilt McGee felt over her on-tape comments about her Williams' appearance. Williams is suing the producers of ''Extreme Makeover'' for breach of contract and intentional infliction of emotional distress, among other allegations. EXTERNAL LINKS |
