Information About

Extreme (marketing)

The term extreme (often deliberately misspelled as "xtreme", "x-treme", or some variant) is frequently used in Advertising and Marketing of many Consumer products as a more Sensational and "hardcore" term for indicating that a product is, supposedly, better, more powerful or otherwise enhanced, "hardcore" or "special" when compared to similar competing products or even products of the same manufacturer, in order to distinguish it from simpler or not as "extreme" products.

Some products frequently labeled as "extreme" include, but are not only limited to:
  • Household Cleaning products, referring to their supposedly "extreme" cleaning Properties .

  • Whitening Toothpastes , Hair Gel and other similar hygienic or cosmetic products, usually referring to their supposedly "extreme" performance.

  • Many Toys , especially Action Figures and sport/combat inspired toys, trying to give them a "hardcore" perceived attitude.

  • Some sequels or special editions of Hentai Manga like Bondage Fairies or Alice In Sexland are also labelled "extreme", to indicate either more "hardcore" content or enhanced art.

  • Some videogame titles also carry the word "Extreme" in the title but the term has, in many cases, been associated with mediocre or poor quality titles and is mostly considered as a cheap trick for creating an apparently "hardcore" title, see List Of Video Games Considered The Worst Ever for more details.
