Information About

Evolution-x

1).HardWare Hack Using Modchips - Most Xbox modchips, such as the Aladdin Xbox modchip, now automatically support "detection" of the Evolution-X dashboard. This simplifies its installation in place of the original dashboard. This allows the Xbox to be turned into a full-fledged FTP server, Web Server , or Media Center . The contents of the Xbox hard drive may be accessed and files may be added or removed from the drive via FTP.

2).Software Hack - this modification is done with the game Mech Assault and a memory card with a hacked game save. It installs the Evolution-X dashboard with the hacked BIOS. The advantages to the softmod is that you don’t need to open up the Xbox video game console, which voids the warranty; the disadvantage is that you are still blocked from the Xbox Live Network.

Evolution-X's main advantage over other Dashboard replacements is in-game reset, activated by pushing down four buttons simultaneously on the joypad (Black key, Back, Start, Right Trigger). It is also highly customisable, allowing the user to set their own menu structure and use custom Skins which change the visual style of the Dashboard and choose what information it should display.

Not to be confused with Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

LEGAL AND USAGE ISSUES

As Of 2005 , it is in violation of most countries' copyright law to distribute this program ready-to-run. The program, like most "homebrew" Xbox programs, requires the Microsoft Xbox Development Kit ( XDK ) for the source code to be compiled into executable code; no one (except Microsoft) has a license to distribute the XDK with this program. So compiled versions always ship with unlicensed Microsoft software. However, an open source Xbox SDK project (OpenSDK) has already started development.

An Xbox running any unofficial BIOS will not be allowed onto the Xbox Live network, and its unique number (stored on the hard drive, replaceable using unofficial means, though a new, unbanned, code is needed) will be banned from Xbox Live. This means that this modded Xbox will not ever be allowed on Xbox Live, even if the user reverts to the official BIOS, unless he/she replaces the unique code stored on that Xbox's Hard Disk . A replacement code can be found by running a relevant program on an Xbox which has not been banned from Xbox Live.
