Supposedly written for a dear friend who had died, the song features soft, moving vocals against a gentle guitar. The original single included both the Japanese version and an ensemble sung in English. A rock variation, also in English, was included on Hyde's ''COUNTDOWN'' single, released October 5th, 2005. The music video, commonly referred to as ''PV'' or ''promotional video'' in Japanese music, is very minimalistic, featuring Hyde with soft, bleached hair in nondescript white clothes against a white backdrop. While simplistic, the video is symbolic, the meaning of which has been left unexplained by its artist. Evergreen is part of an ambitious four song/PV series, compiled onto a DVD titled ''Roentgen Stories'' which includes PVs of Shallow Sleep, Angel's Tale, and Secret Letters, also on the ''ROENTGEN'' album. The DVD was released November 23, 2004 and ties the four PVs into one intriguing and mysterious story. |
