A former bishop of the Church Of Greece , exiled because of his sexual orientation, and an American teacher founded the church in 1946. A group of gays and lesbians at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Parish in Atlanta had been consistently refused Communion. They remained at the altar rail until the end of Mass in protest. Soon, straight supporters joined them. A new church was founded for these worshippers. The Canadian church was founded in 1977 and was active in Montreal. By 1981, all of the members had joined another church. In 2004, the church was refounded by Bishop Darrel Hockley in Regina, later in Vancouver. In 2005, Roger LaRade, then a friar of the Apostolic Society Of Catholic Faith Communities (formerly a Jesuit and later a priest of the Old Catholic Church Of Canada ) was ordained Bishop of the church, based in Toronto at Beloved Disciple Eucharistic Catholic Church. Bishop Hockley is also a supporter of Propitiation (Toronto) . EXTERNAL LINKS |
