Etiquette Of Indian Dining

Eating with your hands is a technique that is not messy if done correctly. The food should be scooped into the fingers, and if eating curry, the Gravy must not be allowed to stain the fingers up till your knuckles--only the fingertips are used.

RIGHT HAND

The cardinal rule of dining is to always use the right hand when eating and '''never''' the left. The left hand is considered Unclean and to use the left hand when eating is considered vulgar and uncouth.

JUTHA

" Jutha " means something that came in contact with the Mouth , Saliva or the Thali ( Plate ) while eating, and it is considered very rude and unhygienic to offer someone else ‘'Jutha".

BEEF AND PORK

Most Indians are either Hindu s or Muslim s. Hindus consider the Cow Sacred , and never eat Beef . Muslims consider the Pig Unclean and never eat Pork . Most Indian restaurants, therefore, don't serve beef or pork, and if they are not on the menu then one would not ask for them for risk of offending the restaurateur.
