Ethel Macdonald




MacDonald became politically active in the Independent Labour Party and then the Anti-Parliamentary Communist Federation . From then on she was associated with Guy Aldred in the Workers Open Forum and United Socialist Movement .


SPAIN

In October 1936 MacDonald travelled to Barcelona with Jane Patrick to assist the anarchists in the Spanish Civil War . She worked as a radio announcer for the Confederacion Nacional del Trabajo (CNT). In the crackdown following The Events Of May 1937 she assisted the escpae of anarchists wanted by the Communist secret police. Eventually she herself was arrested, but later released. She returned to Glasgow in November 1937.


AFTER SPAIN

After her return MacDonald worked with Aldred and other Glasgow anarchists on producing propaganda, notably ''The Word''.
