Information About

Episcopal High School Of Jacksonville

The school is noted for its development of long-distance runners. The boys' cross-country team won the Class A state championship in 2003 and the girls' team placed 14th at Nike Team Nationals in 2005. Also in 2005, both the men and women's 4x800 meter relay teams won state titles in the 2a division.

In May of 1999, US History teacher and track coach Kevin Gagnon was arrested by Jacksonville authorites concluding sexual involvement with an 18-year-old student, allegedly for a period of over 2 years. Gagnon tendered his resignation and school officials have remained tight-lipped over the incident.

In 2002, the school receieved a $9 million gift from the estate of Jane and Wilson Munnerlyn, the largest endowment in the history of the school. The new Center for Worship and Fine Arts, completed that year, was dedicated to the Munnerlyns. The facility is a striking centerpiece for the campus and surpasses the quality of any other high school facility in the area.

On March 31 , 2006 , the school came under fire due to a controversy surrounding a possibly racially motivated image in the annual April Fool's Day edition of the school newspaper. The incident led to an investigation by school authorities. {Link without Title}
