HISTORY UFoD Created by Greg Smith, and was a runoff of the dead text-based RP FoD. It began late '99-early 2000. UFoD stands for Ultimate Fists of the Dragon, and was a DBZ based RP. The original members were Jared, Mark, Greg, Jon, Ryan and James. Dave came in soon after, then Jarod shortly after him. UFoD was then renamed to CoH, or Chronical of Heroes and soon died shortly after Greg joined the military. Chaotic Century Chronicles: First Though EPIC had many previous incarnations, its most organized and well-known form was called "Chaotic Century Chronicles" (CCC), which began in mid-July of 2003. CCC began after the collapse of a previous game ("Chronicle of Heroes"), formed from the joint efforts of long-time members Jared, Kevin (now referred to as Kev1n or Kev1, as there are four Kevins to date), Mark, and David. The first incarnation of Chaotic Century Chronicles was based on an Invision forum (which crashed several times for crippling lengths of time, leading the playerbase to suspect that a Curse had been placed on the game). The original CCC was for the most part a Crossover game wherein most of the players Role-play ed characters from other series. CCC's first generation took place on a planet called "Nextgen," with each of its continents representing a world from various series ( Hyrule from Legend Of Zelda , Ancient China from Romance Of The Three Kingdoms , etc). A number of months after Chaotic Century Chronicles' first incarnation launched, a Tournament was announced in which the players would team up and fight in order to win a prize. It was modelled after Yuyu Hakusho 's "Dark Tournament." Weeks later, five minutes before the tournament's launch, the server crashed. All world, story, character, item, etc data was stored on the forum. Jarod (not to be confused with Jared), the owner of the server, informed the disappointed players that all the data was lost. With this, the "Dark Tournament curse" began. A new character system was devised and months later, the second incarnation of Chaotic Century Chronicles was launched. Chaotic Century Chronicles: Second In this second version of CCC, players were permitted two characters instead of the (sometimes frustrating) limit of one (as was the rule in the first game). As time went on, more players began to move towards using unique characters as opposed to characters from other series. This second generation of CCC ("CCC2" was also hosted on Jarod's Invision server) thrived, gaining new members, for a few months. At the end of its life, problems began to spring up. There was no set guideline for item or equipment making, so GMs (Game Masters, comparable to Dungeons and Dragons's Dungeon Master s) each created items by their own standards. As a result, there were characters with game-breakingly high stats (for example, a character, Drago, with 350 Attack Power and 270 Defense, hundreds above what could be called the average). The three owners of the game came to the decision to shutdown CCC2 and revamp the system. Chaotic Century Chronicles: Third Early January of 2003. The third generation of Chaotic Century Chronicles, CCC3, launched, after much deliberation, procrastination, and no beta testing of the new system. While the details will not be described here, the system included several new elements, only two of which are important: two new base stats being added. In the new system, Projectile and Melee techniques were separated, with different stats governing each. The two-character limit was raised to three and more people began using unique characters. Equipment, stats, and technique / attack effects became standardized. Overall, everyone went into the new game with high expectations, impressed. Unfortunately, as the months passed, flaws started to become evident. The addition of the two new stats enabled exploitation (or, in our jargon, "rape") of the system. By focusing entirely on melee attacks, one could boost their stats to game breaking levels. At the same time, a former member of CCC had broken away and was beginning his own game, Chronicle of Heroes (named after one of the games coming prior to CCC1). Slowly, players of CCC3 were quitting and migrating to this newer game. Greg of CoH and the three owners of CCC3 discussed the future of their games, knowing that the rivalry would kill both games. In spring of 2004, Chaotic Century Chronicles and Chronicle of Heroes officially merged into a new game, Chaotic Century: A Chronicle of Heroes (CCCH). Chronicle of Heroes Incorporating new and innovative ideas as well as elements from CCC3, CCCH grew quickly and launched with much celebration. The character limit went from two to three to four. CCCH was the first game in which original characters outnumbered series characters. This hybrid game under the control of Greg (with input from former staff members) lasted for a long time with no apparent flaws in its system. A strong backstory and active GMs encouraged players to participate often, creating a busy and fun atmosphere. However, some dissenting members from CCC3 formed a committee in secret and began work on reviving the legacy of Chaotic Century Chronicles, a project that would eventually evolve into EPIC. Originally, the plan was to fix the flaws that brought down CCC3 and relaunch the mended game. However, as the committee grew and more ideas were shot around, a whole new game began to take form. At first, little actual work was accomplished. Only brainstorming and undocumented ideas were accomplished. For a number of months, the project seemed to die, until Bishop, a player since CCC1, decided to host a chat with members discussing what they disliked about CCC3/CCCH and what they would like to see in a new game. In this chat, the committee recruited David, one of the longest-playing members and one of the owners of CCC (at this point, each of the three CCC owners were on the committee). EPIC Procrastination, laziness, writer's block, and school stood in the way of EPIC's growth. With the beginning of the new schoolyear, CCCH's activity began a rapid decline in late summer / early autumn of 2004. September came and activity in CCCH all but halted. Slowly, progress on the new game was made. At long last, on January 15th of 2005, the game called EPIC launched. It would not be until months later that realization sank in that the game was incomplete, but it launched smoothly. Pilgrims from CCCH returned, as well as new members, causing EPIC's community to explode in its first few weeks. The most celebrated change in the system was that EPIC's character limit was "anything within reason." Radical changes in the combat system were implemented, which will be documented later. June of 2005 came and the minor imperfections and flaws in the game's system were beginning to pile up. The staff (with Bishop now replacing Kev1n as one of the three owners of EPIC) met and decided to remedy this problem before it got out of hand with a massive update of the game, revamping the stats, skills, items, et cetera. It took a month of procrastination and moderately hard work to get the update ready to launch. July 15th, EPIC's update launched smoothly and with celebration. At midnight, the laborious process of revamping character sheets began. After a week or working out kinks and revamping old descriptions and stats, EPIC's update finished and the game was improved. Since then, the game has continued running strongly and smoothly, longer than any of its predecessors. The spirit of CCC/CoH/EPIC is kept alive through its friendly community and active player base. THE WORLD EPIC takes place in a fictional Universe that was constructed in part, by all the members of the game. At launch, the game only had two Planet s, which has grown to three (and one alternate). The two main planets are Disparatus and '''Earth'''. Disparatus is mostly composed of original countries and races whereas Earth is the EPIC version of CCC's Nextgen, being composed of a combination of countries from different series. In EPIC, original characters are for the most part native to Disparatus, whereas crossover characters come from Earth. Disparatus United Provinces The United Provinces of the Human Nation (United Provinces, "UP") is the most well-known location in EPIC. The UP has the largest concentration of human Population of all countries on Disparatus. The United Provinces is characterized by Metropolitan cities overrun by industrialization. Its Capital city was once a thriving metropolis, Eutropia, but in the Prime War, Eutropia was reduced to ruins by a radical Orkan extremist attack. A restoration and relief effort was subsequently started by the Orkans and various other nations to assist the United Provinces in rebuilding after this catastrophe. The United Provinces is, technologically speaking, one of the most powerful nations in EPIC. It is composed of a league of smaller former countries that binded together under an Alliance pack. It is democratic and is currently allied with Dragonoa in the ongoing Prime War. Dragonoa Dragonoa is a highly religious country dominated by the Thuwadians, tall and able-bodied lizardmen. The country of Dragonoa is largely an arid Desert and is surrounded by Mountains and Volcanoes . Thuwadian cities are built from stone and the powerful Thuwadian Steel , one of the most durable and powerful metals known on Disparatus. Short-tempered and rude, the Thuwadians led their allies, the United Provinces, into war against the nation of Alibaas, led by their king, Drago, whom hated Alibaas. After King Drago's Demise , a Thuwadian named Death took the throne of Dragonoa and now has his sights set on the rapidly-growing Virad Republic. Dragonoa also employs the Dark Dragon Knights as their royal guard, which assisted in the Prime War in fighting the Orkan, Giveian, and Alibaas enemies. Alibaas The Bau Republic of Alibaas is the longest-living country on Disparatus. The Alibaas existed there long before the other races, but opposed to the technologically advancing Orkans and humans, the Alibaas preferred a simplistic Lifestyle . Before the Prime War, the Alibaas had no formal Government , existing as individual Tribe entities that governed themselves. After the organized militaries of Dragonoa and the United Provinces began attacking, the Alibaas leaders met and formed an Alliance Pact , formally uniting all of Alibaas into one Nation . Alibaas exists along Disparatus's equator and thus is largely covered in Tropical forests and Jungle s. White sand Beach es and warm temperatures make it an attractive Vacation spot. The Alibaas people largely worship spirits called the Bau, Spirit s that inhabit all living things. Trees, especially, were nexii of the Bau, drawing lost spirits from the sky in and allowing them to travel through the ground. Alibaas are so foreign to Technology that they still hold metal as sacred. However, they are expert practitioners of Shojo-based Magic , a type of magic drawing power from special energized materials and a powderous substance called Shojo. Banivia Banivia is a Feudal State , ran by a king. As such, it has been reluctant to exchange technologies with other countries over the years, and has fallen pathetically behind. Only the Alibaas are behind them in technological advancement. What the people of this country lack in science, however, they more than make up for in internal strength, strong Foundation , fierce warriors, black magic, defensive power, and iron will. Their numbers are not large, however, as Disease and pestilence over the years have taken their toll. This is not to say that the Population is tiny; it is just not large by most people’s standards. It consists of mainly low valleys ripe for Farming , plains for growing wheat, bogs, and red rocky Mountains . The center of government, the Castle Periveil, sits in the direct center of the country so that it has easy access to all parts of its Empire . There is also a large seafaring business and the outskirts of the country is overrun by Pirate s. |
