Information About

Embalming Fluid

USES

The vast majority of embalming fluid is used to preserve the deceased, and is injected into the arteries and veins of the deceased during embalming. Many other body fluids may be drained or aspirated and replaced with the fluid as well. The process of embalming is designed to slow or stop decomposition of the body.

Aside from the intended use, there have been multiple reports of illicit drug users using embalming fluid to obtain an inexpensive state of intoxication. Sometimes referred to as "wet" on the street, it is usually smoked in cigarettes (tobacco or marijuana) that have been dipped in the fluid. Users have reported a PCP-like intoxication, but the chemicals in embalming fluid are far more dangerous than even PCP . Formaldehyde is a potent Carcinogen , and using the fluid as a drug can cause brain damage, cancer, kidney failure, coma, and death.
