Information About

Edmonds Woodway High School

The school currently hosts the only IB Diploma Programme (part of the International Baccalaureate program) in the Edmonds School District , and is only one of eight in the entire state of Washington to do so.

In 2005, 82% of the tenth graders met or exceeded reading standards on the standardized test, the WASL . 66% met or exceeded math standards. Also in 2005, the school boasted 6 National Merit Scholar Finalists, the most of any high school in the state.

The school's schedule is based on a block schedule, consisting of 90 minute periods in an odd/even day format. Furthermore, the school follows a semester schedule.

An unofficial slogan, since 1995, has been "There are two kinds of people in this world... Warriors and those who wish they were!", coined by principal Alan Weiss at an assembly. Another slogan that has recently gained momentum is "It's a great day to be a Warrior!" This was first used in 2005, at a "Stadium Jam" assembly, to get the student body psyched about the first football game of the season against Meadowdale High School , which they won.

Edmonds-Woodway originates from the Fall of 1990 merger between the former Edmonds High School and Woodway High School.

The building received the 1998 MIW Masonry Excellence Award, for the use of masonry throughout the project. The architect was Bassetti Architects of Seattle.

Notable alumni include Rick Steves , host of his own TV show and author of several books about travelling Europe on a budget (he graduated from the old Edmonds High School, before it merged with Woodway High School). Another notable alumnus is Anna Faris , star of the Scary Movie trilogy and the hilarious movie 'Waiting.'
