I am Douglas Blue Feather, Cherokee heritage. The article originally published on this site has been deleted. It was full of lies, misinformation, and disinformation and I will not tolerate my name and reputation to be slandered by some self-righteous moron who thinks they know more about my blood line and family history than I do. The first clue that the person who wrote these lies doesn’t have a clue what they’re talking about is is that they gave my legal birth name as W.S. Lucus. My birth name is Douglas Bonnell. My Spirit name “Blue Feather” was given to me from the Spirit world long before I started playing the Native American flute. I am Cherokee on my mother’s side. I remember the day when I was 5 yrs. old when she told me of our Native heritage. I have honored my Native heritage my whole life and have always respected that part of me. I know what it is to walk the sacred Red Road. It has been my spiritual path for many years and I was on the Red Road long before I started recording music under the name Blue Feather. Those who know me, including Chief’s and many Elders, know that this is true. The writer of this original article claimed that I have no Native blood and no proof of it. Explain to me how you think you know more about my family heritage and blood line than I do, especially when you didn’t even have my birth name right. The proof that I have Native blood is in my family oral and written history and in my DNA testing. The only fact that you had correct is that I do not belong to a Federally recognized tribe. I have never claimed to. I do not mislead and lie to people in the way that the writer of this original article did. What I do claim is the God given right to claim and honor my heritage and I do not need a card in my wallet to know who I am and where I come from. There are are thousands of mixed blood Natives throughout the great United States who honor their heritage and I am one of them. I am proud of it. Respectfully submitted, Douglas Blue Feather AKA Douglas Bonnell Retired Dayton Police Officer (oh yeah, that’s the other fact you had right) |
