Dolforwyn Castle was built by Llewelyn Ap Gruffydd in 1273 but fell to the English army under Roger Mortimer and Henry De Lacy , Earl Of Lincoln , in 1277 . Dolforwyn Castle is west of the village of Abermule . Long term excavation of the site started in 1981 and was completed in 2000 . The site is owned by Cadw (Welsh Historic Monuments).
