The name means "little sweet one," though it is nearly always a dry wine. It tends to have a dark, rich color with a fruity nose - usually blackberry and blueberry. It pairs especially well with Italian cuisine. Dolcetto is usually made into fast maturing, fruity and robust dark Red Wine with faintly bitter flavor. May be identical with the Douce Noir grape of the Savoie region of France and the variety known as Charbono in California . The best known Varietal wine made from it is Dolcetto D'Alba made in the Alba region and Dolcetto d'Asti. |
