Information AboutDixie District |
|
Twice each year, the Dixie District holds conventions in which quartets and choruses compete. The Spring Convention is held to determine the district's qualifiers for the International Convention held in July of that year. It also determines the district chorus champion. The Fall Convention determines the chorus qualifier for the International chorus competition in July of the next year. It also determines the district quartet champion for the year. District champions are also determined for collegiate, seniors and novice quartets throughout the year. In addition to competitions, the district also holds schools for its members. Dixie Lakeside Harmony Weekend is held in Clemson, South Carolina in late July of each year, and is attended by approximately 300 members of choruses all over the district. Each November a COTS (Chapter Operations Training School) is held to help familiarize new and current chapter officers on ways to run, maintain, and improve their chapters over the coming year. The Dixie District also works to educate young adults about singing and barbershop style music. Called YMIH (Young Men In Harmony) the district works with chapters to hold classes, concerts and competitions each year. Some quartets go on to participate in district collegiate competitions, and even international collegiate quartet competitions. Winners in international competitions earn scholarship money for continuing education. INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS Quartet Champions
