Information About

Diurnal

The term diurnal is used in a number of contexts:

  • In Biology , a Diurnal Animal is an animal that is active in the daytime. This definition may also apply to plants. Compare with Nocturnal or Crepuscular .

  • In Meteorology , diurnal means daily, especially pertaining to actions which are completed in 24 hours and are repeated every 24 hours; this can be seen in the diurnal temperature variation. An alternative word for diurnal in this sense is ''' Diel '''.

  • In Astronomy , Diurnal Motion refers to the apparent motion of stars around the Earth, caused by the Earth's rotation around its axis. More generally it means ''repeating daily'' as in e.g. ''diurnal effect''

  • In Astrology , Diurnal Motion has, of course, the same meaning it does in Astronomy . A '''diurnal''' planet also refers to the Sect of the planet--that is, whether the Sun is over the horizon in the Chart in which the planet is positioned. A '''diurnal''' chart is one in which the Sun is over the horizon.
