The chain was founded by Ronald Matsch in 1989 . Discovery Zone existed from 1989 to 1999 , On March 25 - 26 , 1996 in Wilmington, Delaware , Discovery Zone filed for bankruptcy with debts of up to $366.2 Million . Chuck E. Cheese's bought Discovery Zone in 1999 , and the chain no longer exists. |
