Delaware Park is located in Buffalo , New York , USA . It was designed as part of a coordinated system of Park s, Parkway s, and Traffic Circle s in the City by Frederick Law Olmsted . Constructed in 1871 and covering 350 Acre s, Delaware Park is the centerpiece of the Buffalo parks system.

Named simply ''The Park'' by Olmsted, it was later renamed in ultimate reference to the Lenape Eastern Algonquian Tribe known to Europeans as the Delaware .


BUFFALO PARKS SYSTEM

The Olmsted system in Buffalo was the first of its kind and is listed in the National Register Of Historic Places . The system was originally conceived by Olmsted and his partner Calvert Vaux in 1868 .

The parks in the system are currently named Cazenovia, '''Delaware''', '''Front''', ''' Martin Luther King, Jr. ''', '''Riverside''', and '''South'''. The parkways in the system are named '''Lincoln''', '''Bidwell''', '''Chapin''', '''Richmond''', '''Porter''', '''Red Jacket''', and ''' McKinley '''.
