Defense screens are primarily used on Command Carriers as a last line of defence. It extends as an oval energy bubble around the ship (allowing small nearby ships to be protected as well). Because the field is not perfect (occasional gaps and holes occur) the system is made out of two overlapping "layers" of shielding to minimise the number of weak spots. The crew on Moya managed to salvage parts of a defense screen from the destroyed command carrier " Zelbinion ", and installed it onboard Moya. While this system only had one of the normal two layers of shielding this system has still saved their lives several times. It can't stand up to sustained fire because of Moya's limited energy reserves, compared to a command carrier, though. |
