GEOGRAPHY Dayton is located at 42°6'42" North, 111°59'6" West (42.111615, -111.985136) at 4,818 feet in elevation. It lies on the west side of Cache Valley, at the mouth of Five Mile Creek and at the base of the Bannock Mountain Range. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 17.1 Km&2 (6.6 Mi&2 ). 17.1 km&2 (6.6 mi&2) of it is land and 0.1 km&2 (0.04 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.30% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 444 people, 126 households, and 105 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 26.0/km&2 (67.4/mi&2). There were 133 housing units at an average density of 7.8/km&2 (20.2/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.07% White , 0.23% African American , 0.68% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.90% from Other Races , and 1.13% from two or more races. 0.90% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 126 households out of which 51.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.2% were Married Couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.9% were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.52 and the average family size was 3.95. In the city the population was spread out with 41.9% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males. The median income for a household in the city was $36,442, and the median income for a family was $37,308. Males had a median income of $26,786 versus $22,188 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $11,653. 8.8% of the population and 8.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 9.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
