The Danville Expressway is a 15 mile (25 km) partial-loop interstate-grade highway around Danville, Virginia . It is unsigned as Virginia State Highway 785. The highway is co-signed with US 29 from the Business US 29 split north of Danville, around the eastern and southern edge of the city to the US 29/Bus 29 split south of Danville at the North Carolina state line. The highway is also co-signed with US 58 along its southern half. The highway is officially signed the Danville Expressway (VA 785) from the Bus 29 split north of Danville and along the US 29 route to the North Carolina line, although on maps it is shown as the complete loop.

The highway's number is one of two in the state that are in violation of Virginia law that says that no state highways can be numbered above 599. This is because the highway is scheduled to be an Interstate Highway . The other route is with VA 895 in Richmond .

FUTURE INTERSTATE

The Danville Expressway will be the northern section of I-785 . The only current references to I-785 on US 29 are Future I-785 Corridor signs.

With the construction of the Danville Expressway, the Virginia portion of I-785 is complete. Until it can be signed as I-785, US 29 in North Carolina has to be upgraded.
