CCW was started in February 1999 by Jonathan Stevens in Anniston, Alabama. The very first CCW show was called '''Friday Fury''' and took place on February 26, 1999 from the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California. The first card featured eWrestlers such as Brad Lamen, '''Fat Ass Phil Burner''', and '''The Supreme Machine'''. The very first pay-per-view event was entitled Irish Spring which eminated from '''The United Center''' in Chicago, Illinois on March 21, 1999. There, '''Hardcore Gorilla Mask''' defeated '''The Mimic''' in the tournament finals to become the first '''CCW Heavyweight Champion''' although some prefer to believe the original champion was '''Diablo''' based on the fact there were CCW house shows prior to the actual internet debut of Friday Fury. CCW continued on, growing by leaps and bounds. The promotion was invited to join their first inter-fed, FightFactory, where they dominated the ranks. FightFactory soon closed its doors and CCW returned to the independent scene. A major 32-man tournament began soon after. Champion of the Ring saw 24 eWrestlers from CCW and eight from other independent promotions attempt to eWrestle their way to the finals at '''Heatstroke 99''' which aired live from the Compaq Center in Houston, Texas. '''The Supreme Machine''' defeated '''Mr. Gobstopper''' in the COTR finals to claim his position as the number one contender for CCW Heavyweight Championship, then held by '''Apocalypse'''. The Supreme Machine met '''Apocalypse''' for the title during the event of '''Group Therapy''' on September 5, 1999 which took place at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Supreme Machine, or SuMa, won the match but only after a disqualification was announced. '''Apocalypse''' managed to retain the title. The two met again only a week later on Shockin Sunday Nite on September 12, 1999 from Madison Square Garden in New York City. SuMa managed to pin '''Apocalypse''' in a clean match to win the championship. That was the beginning for CCW. Influences poured through the door of CCW including names such as Tim Inman, '''Adam Renner''', and '''Jeff Awtrey'''. With Jonathan Stevens still at the helm of operations, CCW entered into their second inter-fed promotion, '''PrimeTime Central''', in 2001. It was there where CCW truly stepped into the spotlight with names such as '''Jason McAllister''', '''John Jupiter''', and '''Andrew Ace Hawk'''. It was also there where CCW President Jonathan Stevens decided to step down and give control of CCW to someone else. Adam Renner then took over the promotion. Beginning here, not much is known about CCW from mid-2001 through 2003. Renner handed off the promotion to Jeff Awtrey. It is believed Awtrey closed CCW for good in 2003. In 2004, a rumor began circulating that CCW was in the midst of a comeback. A new domain name was obtained, ccwfed.com by none other than Jonathan Stevens. However, that rumor was just that. CCW did not come back. Various people had contacted Jonathan Stevens about a return to CCW all throughout 2005. He kept the thought fresh in his mind but his very busy personal life prevented him from carrying out his dream to bring CCW from the ashes and back on top of the eWrestling world. Enter 2006. Jonathan Stevens met up with former CCW Heavyweight Champion -- '''The Wish Master''', whose real name is '''Bryan Alkire''', in Manassas, Virginia. Stevens laid out his plans for a return to the eWrestling world with a new innovation that hasn't been seen in e-feds, at least not by Stevens. Alkire thought it was a good idea and that is all the motivation that Stevens needed. Two weeks passed since the meeting and plans were made to begin reconstruction of CCW. A third domain name was obtained, http://www.ccw-ewrestling.com. The rules were revamped and now CCW awaits its grand re-opening in February of 2006. |
